You may ask yourself, what is EMO???

EMO is short for emotional, or emotional hardcore (emo core). Another term used for EMO is "Scene kids". The type of music EMOS listen to is charged with emotional energy. Often artists will scream out the lyrics in order to drive home the songs message. EMO is basically a music inspired, fashion based lifestyle. Below is a list of bands EMOS listen to.

The EMO Style:

Generally EMOS wear thier hair so the bangs (long and fringed) cover one eye. EMOS will often dye thier hair black, and incorporate other colors into their hair. EMOS like to wear retro trendy t-shirts, and Punk Rock themed t-shirts as well as band t-shirts. Some EMO boys, and girls wear skinny tight black pants with studded belts. EMO girls wear Punk, and Goth inspired dresses, blouses, and accessories. EMO boys and girls wear black eyeliner. Some EMOS will have 2 hoop type piercing in their lower lip also known as "Snake Bites".

Myths about EMOS:

Myth #1.

All EMOS cut themselves or want to commit suicide. These are not EMO specific actions. All types of people have attempted or were succsessful in the above mentioned actions. These are symptoms of some kind of mental illness, and not symptoms of being EMO.

Myth #2

All EMOS do illegal narcotics (drugs). Drug abuse affects all different types of people from all walks of life. If all the EMOS were gone tomorrow, guess what?

Myth #3

All EMOS are homosexual, or bi sexual, lol. Once again homosexuality exists in all different types of people throughout the world.

Myth #4 EMOS started the war in Iraq. LoL That was a joke:)

The EMO scene kids are more into expressing their emotions rather than hurting others. Kids who are more into expressing themselves tend to be more down to earth, or grounded. The EMO movement is giving kids a platform, or place to express themselves through music, and fashion. As a result of the EMO movement it is now becoming "in style" to speak out and express your emotions. Examples of this expressions are music, fashion, art, and poetry. The benifits of this type of EMO behavior displayed by kids today is profoundly positive. I mean would you rather have kids pulling drive bys, doing drugs, or other illegal activities rather than finding a way to express thier frustrations? The world we live in today is materialistic, and commercialized and the kids are getting pretty fed up with that. Thats why the EMOS are increasing in numbers across the world. As a result of the EMO movement their should be a decrease in teenage violence due to their new found ability to express themselves. This translates into better young adults entering into Americas adult society.
